The Grand ‘Ole Party is trying to be what it used to be.
Can ex-Contract with America player bring glory back to the GOP?
The election season is barely over and there has been many jockeying for position to run against President Obama in 2012. Politics of the worst kind is presently in play in states with the worst levels of unemployment exists among the overall population and higher still amongst minorities. Louisiana has yet to recover from the devastating effects of Katrina, and has their Governor Bobby Jindal turning down Stimulus funds as did the Alaskan and Mississippi Governors Sarah Palin and Haley Barbour. South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford seems to be having second thoughts about taking the money as there was a movement by some of his State Legislators to override his decision. All of these moves are being made with an eye toward the next national election and seeking a baseline of constituents to build upon between now and then. Republicans tend to tact to the right of center when they are on the ropes and recently just taken a serious beating on the national front. None of the primetime players sent to bat up until now have even been able to get on base so to speak when their turn came their way. Jindal, Sarah Palin, Michael Steele and Eric Cantor have all seemed to have fallen a tad short during their screen test. It is said that at times like this when one should reflect inward to find the needed strength to find the right path and or leader to return the Grand ‘Ole Party to glory once again.
So after some time spent assessing the competition and seeing none with his credentials, and they are many, a player from the days of the ‘Contract with America’ decides that he is the change the Republicans are looking for. The gentleman has quite the credentials as a former Congressional Representative for the State of Georgia for ten terms, succeeding Dick Cheney as Minority Whip, co-author of the famed ‘Contract with America’ which laid the foundation for the return of control of both houses of Congress to the Republican Party. He went on to become the 58th Speaker of the House and as such opposed many of the legislation and polices of the Clinton Administration. His was the supposed ‘attack on welfare’ which really was an attack on women as they were the highest number of participants of the program as being the one with the least power in this male dominated society Those credentials in and of themselves would probably be enough as it presents a record of a potentially dangerous and skilled politician. His was from a time when Senators like Phil Graham was pushing through the ‘Commodity Futures Modernization Act’ as a backdoor legislation to a larger bill. This was just the beginning of the party’s damage to this county, the derivatives that brought AIG to its knees was contrived from that legislation. Newton Leroy Gingrich has determined he is the change the party is looking for.
So, that means literally means change for this man who would be the next leader of the free world. He has recently become a member of the Catholic faith. This was at one time considered to be a hindrance to one desiring so lofty a position during the sixties, but apparently he has determined times have changed. I expect that this conversion of his is a public display of him forgiving himself for the credentials of his that may not be forgiven by many who he seeks as constituents in 2012.I am not sure how this conversation helps him gain the perception his soul has been cleansed or anything like that. It appears that his family values include his forcing his wife Jackie who was in the hospital into an immediate divorce as he had another waiting in the wings. This pillar of manhood worthy of being the next leader of the Republican Party and our country applied pressure on his former wife Jackie while in the hospital recovering from cancer. Then she had to take him to court to force him to keep up child support payments for his kids.
This man who wants to be our country’s leader while being a major player in the party not only responsible for the financial chaos the country is now going through, formerly responsible for bouncing over twenty checks while in office as member o. He, of the Contract with America Republicans, whom obtained a balanced budget law that didn’t apply to his checking account. He who has an ‘oral’ affair with an married Anne Manning while married himself to Marianne, who he then dumps as he has one 23 years his junior , Congressional Staffer Callista Bisek waiting in the wings. These are actions of one who feels that after all the hard work of one President Barack Obama who will have been in office for four years, and may or may not have this mess cleaned up by then, that he can come in and pretend he is of the high moral standards that have been set in place by the new president today. I am amazed at the belligerence that this man Mr. Newton Gingrich displays by even considering himself qualified to run for the office with as much baggage as he is carrying with his colorful history. It looks like the Grand ‘Ole Republican Party lack of leadership has reached a sad level with reaching back to ideas of a sorry contract of a two faced hypocritical former Speaker of the house. The Grand ‘Ole Party is resorting back to just what it used to be once again. Sorry.
